About the Organization: 20 Years of Law and Policy Leadership

Results and leverage are words most frequently used to describe SELC. Through cutting-edge work in the three branches of government - in Congress and state legislatures to inform new laws, with regulatory agencies to ensure existing law and policy is implemented, and in the courts to set precedents or stop abuses - SELC uses the full power of the law to protect the environment and health of the Southeast. SELC has five major focus areas: healthy air and water, forest protection, coast and wetlands conservation, and transportation and land-use reform. We think regionally and act locally, in collaboration with 100+ partner groups.

The Southern Environmental Law Center was founded in 1986 and is recognized by environmental policy and decision makers as one of the most effective non-profit groups in the U.S. The Chapel Hill office staff serves the states of North and South Carolina. SELC's headquarters is located in Charlottesville, VA and focuses on Virginia and Tennessee. Our Atlanta office focuses on the states of Georgia and Alabama.

SELC is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is continually seeking to diversify its staff. We strongly encourage applications from persons of all racial and ethnic backgrounds.
